If your periods are unusually painful, heavy or irregular, it could be a sign of endometriosis — a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it, often leading to ongoing pain and menstrual changes. No — your GP can assess your symptoms, arrange any imaging needed, and refer you on for specialist care if required.

Can endometriosis be managed without surgery?

Often, yes. Many patients are managed with medication, hormonal treatment and lifestyle strategies; your doctor will discuss what’s appropriate for you.
